Inquiry - P.B.S & Winter Olympics - Venn Diagram

Inquiry this week is going really well. For our task we were asked to make a Venn Diagram, comparing Panmure Bridge School and the 2018 Winter Olympics. A Venn Diagram contains difference and similarities. For this task we asked to find informations about the 2018 Winter Olympics and Panmure Bridge School. Did you know that Panmure Bridge and the Winter Olympics have the same values, respect and excellence and innovation. To complete this piece of work I worked collaboratively with Jack, Nickaela and Brooklyn.

Building Blocks - Maths

For maths, Jeremiah and I created a DLO showing our working out of the problem 'Building blocks'. My partner and I have worked hard on this DLO and it was not easy working the problem out. This week we are learning how to find the area of a 2D shape, and the volume of the 3D shape.

Chinese New Year

Since it almost the Chinese New Year, this week LS2 worked in pairs to write an explanation that tells people how Chinese New Year is celebrated, why people celebrate it, and the story behind the zodiac animals. This task was very different from my normal writing tasks. This is because I had to partner up with some from Mrs Anderson's writing group. I chose to go with Miki, since we work well together. This task was a bit hard because, I had to explain to Miki the definition of some advanced vocabulary, for example, 'auspicious'. It was fun sharing our ideas as we learnt new information together.

What Is a Chinese New Year?

Did you know that the Chinese New Year is a very special festival or celebration for the people in the Chinese community. The Chinese New Year starts with the New Moon on the first day of the Chinese New Year, and ends with the full moon 15 days later. The next Chinese New Year falls on Friday, February 16th 2018. During that time people lit up Lanterns. This happens at the end of the Chinese New Year on the 15th day at night. Most people decorate their houses using Red Couplets. Sometimes say Kung Hei Fat Choi to each other. The Kung Hei Fat Choi is the chinese meaning of a Happy New Year. There are many things related to Chinese New Year and we’ll see as we go on.

There is an animal for every single year. They have Rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. This is the year of the Dog. In the race the dog placed 11th There are some variety of dogs. There is a Wood dog, a gold dog, a fire dog, water dog and an earth dog. The earth dogs are honest, brave, loyal and Smart.

Usually in Chinese New Year people eat noodles. The noodles represents live long, however it’s very unlucky if you cut it. Chinese people also eat shrimps, and rolled eggs. The shrimp represents happiness. Finally, the rolled eggs represents rich in money and gold. This is because the rolled egg is shaped as a block of gold.

Electives - Maths

This week for maths, we had a challenging task. Our task was called "Electives". This task is about a few students going to an Inter school and the remaining pupils doing Electives. For this task I work collaboratively with Jeremiah. Jeremiah and I did many different tasks together, but only a few of them made us think and focus more, this task was one of them. "Do you know why?"

Well there were some really hard question for example, 0.125 of 192.  Jeremiah and I decided to take risks in many areas and used some hard strategies that made sense to us. For example converting 0.125 into 12.5%.

To solve this problem Jeremiah and I  went through many hard strategy. Then we compared each of them and we chose the best strategy for each question. These best strategies we chose are the ones on our DLO.

Kiwi Can - First Session - Reflection

This week for Kiwi Can we had special tutors. They are Miss Lily and Mr Matt. Our theme for this term is Positive Relationships which means connecting with others and encouraging them in different ways you can help them out. If you encourage them it will boost their self-esteem. Our Kiwi Can tutors gave us a challenge called "10 second tag". In this game there were teams which were bibs and teams which were non bibs.
For this game we had to show sportsman ship. We had a fantastic game and my team played really well and also supported the other teams when it was their team. I had lots of fun with Miss Lily and Mr Matt.
